What is the difference between Standard and HD mode?

Standard uses Real-ESRGAN, which is fast (2–6 seconds) and excellent for everyday use — photo restoration, social posts, general cleanup. HD uses Clarity Upscaler, which takes 10–30 seconds but reconstructs finer details and textures. Use HD when the image is going somewhere important (product page, print, portfolio) and Standard for everything else.

Is this really free?

Standard is free for signed-in users — 5 runs per day. After that each additional Standard upscale costs 1 credit. HD mode has no free tier and costs 3 credits per run regardless of scale. Signed-in accounts start with a small credit bonus so you can try HD without paying.

How much bigger will my image get?

A 1024×1024 image becomes 2048×2048 at 2x, or 4096×4096 at 4x. File size scales roughly with the pixel count — expect 4–6x larger PNGs at 2x and 15–25x larger at 4x. Plan accordingly for very large inputs.

Does it work on AI-generated images?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and actually very well — AI-generated images tend to have clean structure and no sensor noise, which is ideal input for upscaling. A common workflow is: generate at 1024×1024 with gpt-image-1, then upscale here to 4K for print.

Can it fix blurry or low-quality photos?

Accepted Answer

Upscalers are not magic. They cannot invent detail that was never captured. What they can do is sharpen edges, reduce compression artifacts, and reconstruct plausible fine texture. If the source is extremely blurry or pixelated, results will be limited — try HD mode for the best possible recovery.

What file formats are supported?

Accepted Answer

Input: PNG, JPG, JPEG, WebP, up to 10MB. Output: PNG (for transparent inputs) or JPEG (for opaque inputs), preserving the original color profile. HD mode always outputs PNG.

Can I batch process multiple images?

Currently the tool processes one image at a time to keep the interface simple. For batch needs, you can upscale images back-to-back using the same browser session — each run is independent. Batch automation is planned for a future update.

How is this different from Photoshop Preserve Details?

Accepted Answer

Photoshop Preserve Details uses interpolation with light AI cleanup. Our Standard tier is already meaningfully better on most content types, and HD mode uses a diffusion model that genuinely reconstructs detail rather than just interpolating it.
